Youth Taijutsu

Challenges are what make life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.

Our Youth Taijutsu program is similar in many aspects to our adult program but caters specifically to the kinds of threats a child might face – schoolyard bullies, adult attackers, the kinds of threats where escape is more important than violence.

Our youth program is designed for children between 6 and 12 years old. We cannot expect children in this age range to stay in a fight the way we ask our teens and adults. Instead, we ask them to escape. We call it the 3 D’s – Defend, Disarm, Disappear.

Our youth curriculum consists of 45 classes that you’ll repeat several times to gain mastery of. Each class falls into one of five categories –

Striking

Our youth striking classes address how to throw a punch or kick as well as how to protect yourself from the same attacks. These could be actual strikes meant to do harm to the youth or simply pushing attacks similar to the motion of a punch.

Takedowns & Control

Going to the ground may be inevitable, but it doesn’t have to be scary. These lessons teach how to safely go to the ground as either the initiator or the target.

Grappling

If the altercation goes to the ground, youth need to know how to defend themselves and get back to their feet. Our youth grappling is not about getting submissions or chokes, but rather, about escaping unharmed.

Self-Defense

Some situations are unique to personal safety. They don’t easily fit into a regular martial arts situation. Because of this, we refer to them simply as Self-Defense scenarios.

Weapon Use

In order to get the youth familiarized with weapons being a thing in self-defense and because they can just be fun to train with, we include lessons with Shuriken (ninja stars) and batons.
